Types of Hyperhidrosis

  1. Primary (Focal) Hyperhidrosis
    • Most common type
    • Affects specific areas (palms, soles, underarms, face, scalp)
    • Usually begins in childhood or adolescence
    • No underlying medical cause; linked to overactive nerves
  2. Secondary (Generalized) Hyperhidrosis
    • Caused by an underlying condition (e.g., infections, diabetes, hormonal disorders, medications)
    • Can affect the whole body
    • Often starts in adulthood

Symptoms

  • Excessive sweating that interferes with daily activities
  • Sweat occurs even when not hot or active
  • May lead to skin irritation, odor, and infections
  • Can cause embarrassment, anxiety, and social withdrawal
